Robot
In the Music Composer
With a composition open, Robot reads and changes it through the editor's own actions. Ask in your own words: "a four-bar bass line in the lowest part", "transpose the alto up a third", "quantise bar 4", "copy bars 1 to 4 to bar 17", "slow down into the last cadence".
It reads the notes and the harmony around a passage before writing, and what the piece says about itself (its sections, the text on the canvas, its colours) for its mood. Bars are counted from 1 across the whole piece; the canvas's numbers restart at each section, so say "bar 3 of the B section" and Robot works out which bar that is.
What it can do
| Area | For example |
| --- | --- |
| Notes | Write, change and delete notes, and choose how a note is spelt; transpose by scale steps in the key, step them in the scale around them, swap them with their neighbours, quantise, retrograde, invert, stretch, split, join, duplicate; copy a passage elsewhere |
| Parts and instruments | Add, rename, hide and delete parts; add instruments, change their settings and release level, pick synth presets |
| Form | The key, in any of the fifty scales; bars and time signatures, sections and repeats, groups, patterns and replicas (the scale a replica steps in, and which part it plays), ornaments, text on the canvas |
| Playing | Interpretations and their settings (tuning, lead-in and lead-out, note size and look), tempo changes, rubato and ritardandos, rules for articulation and dynamics, pedal, part levels and effects |
| Presenting | Colour themes, taken from an artwork's palette or another composition too, and a theme each for light and dark mode; 2D and 3D visualisers: their camera, layout, markings, bars and parts shown |
| Scores | Make, copy and delete scores; their paper, page size, margins, scale and spacing, text, bar and page numbers, staves and clefs, which parts they write; which are in the score lane |
| Exporting | Set up the export settings of each visualiser's video and of the audio, image, MIDI and Pteropixel document; export them, add renders to the Render queue, and start, pause, cancel or duplicate them there |
| The bench | Play a passage (it becomes the work region), show one on the canvas, save a version before a large change |
Undo and versions
Each change Robot makes is one step you can undo, named "Robot: ..." in the undo history. Before a large change (rewriting a section, many bars at once) it saves a version you can go back to.
Not supported yet: instrument stops and registrations, and a visualiser's effects chain.
