Exporting fonts

Open Export from the bottom toolbar, and choose the module on its own or one of its bundles. Exporting saves the font first. Fonts export as OTF, WOFF2 or both, in a ZIP; with WOFF2 comes a CSS file for using them on the web. Each weight, width and style is its own file in one family, so the CSS picks the Bold file for bold text. The font demo has no export.

Options

  • Letter spacing: which side of each glyph the spacing goes on.
  • Web font loading: hide text until the font has loaded (Block), or show a fallback first (Swap).
  • Monospace: Display keeps any advances you've changed, and Terminal holds every glyph to one cell.
  • Offset top and Offset bottom: room added above the ascender or below the descender, which moves the glyphs down or up in a line.
  • Vertical writing: also export a font for vertical text.
  • For Han, whether to include the other regions' forms, and whether to fill in missing forms from another region.
  • Also emit web slices: one file per group of characters as well, so a browser downloads only what a page's text uses. Worth it for a large Han font.

Cuts and presets

A cut is one font file in the export, such as the Traditional Chinese one. Each cut uses the shared options unless you change them. Save a set of options as a preset to use again.

The exported font carries kerning, placement, ligatures, contextual sequences, regional forms, vertical forms, CJK widths, and every published variant feature.
